Confusion Over Free Credit Reports

The Federal Free Credit Reporting Act requires that the each of the 3 national credit reporting agencies provide consumers with a yearly credit report, if desired. The only authorized source of these reports is www.AnnualCreditReport.com.   If you google "Free Credit Reports", you'll  find a lot of impostor sites, some with some endearing commercials, that at best are trying to sell you additional services for a monthly fee and at worst might like to borrow your identity.  Since a typo can misdirect you, it is wise to go through the Federal Trade Commission site to get a look at the legitimate one's appearance then simply add www.AnnualCreditReport.com to your "Favorites" and your schedule.   By staggering the months, you receive reports from each agency_Experian, Equifax and TransUnion_throughout the year and you'll have a systematic, no cost way to monitor your credit report for errors or fraud.  (Note, this does not include a free FICO)
