Cool Off At Theodore Wirth Beach

Theodore Wirth Park located on the border of Minneapolis and Golden Valley is 759 acres of fun for everyone.

Theodore Wirth Park has something to offer everyone that visits, the park is home to an 18 hole golf course, sledding and tubing hills, fishing docks, biking and walking trails, a large picnic area and beautiful scenery. However, with the 90 degree weather hitting the cities this past week my favorite spot at Theodore Wirth has been the beach. The beach at the park has undergone some serious improvements the past few years and even plans on doing more soon. The city added a brand new playground this summer, sand volleyball courts have been added, a 400 foot floating dock is now in place, surrounding the swimming area, renovations have been made to the beach house and they have done a lot to improve water quality.

This beach is a perfect place to take the kids on a hot summer day. In my experience the beach has never been extremely crowded and parking is close and free. If you usually go to Lake Calhoun or Lake Harriet I would definitely give Theodore Wirth Beach a shot, similar feel with half the crowds and only a few miles from downtown!
