Search Engine Optimization versus Siri Optimization

With Apple’s recent announcement of their new mobile operating system (iOS 6) coming this fall, there has been increased buzz about SEO vs. SO. That is, Search Engine Optimization versus Siri Optimization. Could Siri be the end of SEO as we know it? (If I lost you at Siri, follow this link: http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/siri.html.)

Have you ever asked Siri for the name of a local REALTOR or nearby real estate company?

As a real estate professional, here is what you should be doing to appear not only in search engine results, but also in Siri’s search results:

  1. List your business everywhere. Besides Trulia, Zillow and REALTOR.com, your business should be listed on Yelp, Google Places, Foursquare, Citysearch, Yellow Pages, Yahoo Local, Superpages, and Bing Local.
  2. Ask your customers to post reviews. Make this request a part of your after-closing correspondence with your buyers and sellers.  The more reviews you have (good or bad), the higher you appear on search results for all of these sites.
