Neighborhood Information

The Near North community west of downtown Minneapolis forms part of the western city limits along Xerxes Avenue across from Theodore Wirth Park. It consists of six neighborhoods: Harrison, Hawthorne, Jordan, Near-North, Sumner-Glenwood and Willard-Hay. Lowry Avenue North forms its northern boundary, the Mississippi River and Interstate 94 form its eastern boundary, and the green spaces of Bassett’s Creek provide the southern boundary. The neighborhoods are primarily residential, consisting of single-family homes, and the residents enjoy their proximity not only to the commercial and entertainment venues of downtown, but to the green spaces of 759-acre Wirth Park and 70-acre Bassett’s Creek with their abundant walking and biking paths, picnic facilities, playgrounds, and recreational waterways.
