With Lake Nokomis and Hiawatha Golf Course at its heart and the Minnehaha Creek crossing it from west to east, this popular SE Minneapolis community is home to 10 distinct neighborhoods: Diamond Lake, Ericsson, Hale, Keewaydin, Minnehaha, Morris Park, Northrop, Page, Regina and Wenonah. On the north, it is bounded by 42nd St E and 43rd St E and on the south by the City of Richfield. It’s western border is 35W and on the east by Hiawatha Ave (Hwy 55) and the Twin Cities light-rail line, conveniently making this entire community just minutes away from downtown Minneapolis, the Metrodome, MSP International Airport and the Mall of America.
Nokomis, as do many of its neighborhoods, derives its name from characters found in 19th century American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's famous poem, The Song of Hiawatha.
