Northeast Minneapolis is a community made up of 13 small, closely-knit neighborhoods. Its heritage as a settlement of Eastern Europeans is still evident in its ancient architecture and old, family business names, but today Northeast is known for its trendy aspects as well as its tradition.  Northeast lies across the river from Minneapolis proper and contains what is left of the original Main Street of the Mill City—complete with cobblestones— now known as the St. Anthony Main business district. Here, too, mills and warehouses have been converted to condos, but long before that craze, Northeast was well established as a residential community with sidewalks and city parks. Today that small town tradition continues with the added flavor of art studios, galleries, shops, boutique cuisine and perhaps the best river and night-light views in the city.
