Believe it or not, Montgomery, Minnesota is the kolacky capital of the world. A kolacky (or kolache) is a traditional Czech food—a pastry filled with either sweet fruit or meats and cheeses—kind of a choice between a Danish sweet roll and a pot pie. Montgomery, a friendly city of 3300 people about 45 minutes south of the Twin Cities, was settled primarily by Czechoslovakian immigrants and it remains the largest Czech community in Minnesota. But the truth is, this lovely rural town with a charming main street and three city parks attracts all kinds of people—especially during their popular annual Kolacky Days celebration. Vitame Vas!
