St. Louis Park Real Estate

St Louis Park Real Estate offers some of the most diverse housing in the Twin Cities. St Louis Park Schools are excellent and the location is tough to beat.

St. Louis Park homes are always a safe purchase. Real Estate in Minnesota can vary in the outer suburbs in values and style, however St. Louis Park, MN is considered very much a part of Minneapolis Real Estate.

Witha variety of restaurants, shopping, watering holes, where you can grab a drink after work, major medical facilities and top-notch schools, St Louis Park has something for everyone, including easier access to such amenities as the Chain of Lakes than many Minneapolis residents have.

The array of housing here is some of the most diverse in the Twin Cities, ranging from single-family homes in tree-shaded, often hilly neighborhoods to large apartment complexes and the region's hottest new “Smart Growth” community, such as St Louis Park Excelsior and Grand Condos. With a high proportion of single family and multi-family rental units, the median rent is on the low side for the Twin Cities rental market.

North of Cedar Lake Road, Westwood Hills is a 1960s and newer development of executive homes located between the Minneapolis Golf Club (www.Minneapolisgolfclub.com) and the 150-acre Westwood Hills Nature Center, a great place to bike, exercise or enjoy some nature.

Across town, in the city's southeast corner, Minikahda Vista homes border yet another golf course, The Minikahda Club (www.minikahdaclub.org), which is actually in Minneapolis. Minikahda Vista Homes were built in the 1920 and 30s, about the same time as neighboring Linden Hills homes were built. Though this is one of St. Louis Park's oldest neighborhood, it’s still one of the most desirable--especially for those looking for Minneapolis homes with character.

Still only about 25% of Saint Louis Park Homes have more than three bedrooms and a bathroom and a half. In an effort to keep home owners in St. Louis Park, the city has implemented a workshop, free of charge, to residents who want to consult with an architect and consider increasing their home's real estate value.

St. Louis Park School District 283 is a well maintained system with many nationally recognized schools, both public and private, including Minneapolis Jewish Day School and Benilde-St. Margaret’s Catholic Schools.

More information can be found at www.stlouispark.org 952-924-2500

Do St. Louis Park residents have any say in the freight rail re routing?

The City is holding open sessions this week to give its residents an opportunity to share their opinions about the controversial freight train rerouting. The plan calls for moving freight traffic from the Minneapolis Kenilworth Corridor to St. Louis Park to make room for a regional light rail line which will connect Minneapolis to Eden Prairie and wind through the western suburbs. Hennepin County Commissioner Gail Dorfman does not sound optimistic about whether citizens could actually unite to stop a potential reroute and indicated that St. Louis Park reroute appears to be the most feasible option for making regional light rail a reality. Visit the St. Louis Park Patch for more on the topic.

St. Louis Park High School

St. Louis Park Senior High was recently recognized by Newsweek Magazine (June 2010) as the #2 rated Minnesota Public High School. The current principle, Robert Metz, notes that their emphasis on academic excellence iis highly valued by students and staff. With a relatively small population (about 1,300 students 9-12), it is very likely that each student will develop close relationships with multiple staff members. These relationships help us maintain a small-town feel.

Principle Metz also states that more than 70% of students participate in athletic and/or co-curricular activities, many in more than one. For example, it is not uncommon for one of our students to participate in jazz band, play on the soccer team, and write for our award-winning school newspaper, the Echo. The opportunity to participate in these types of activities is a wonderful bonus for students.
In addition, the high school offers 23 varsity sports teams and a number of other extra-curricular activities. Notable alumni include Al Franken, Joel and Ethan Cohen, New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman and WCCO-TV sports anchor Mark Rosen. Visit St. Louis Park Senior High online for more details.
