The Greater East Side neighborhood in the northeast corner of St. Paul is a modern part of the city with most of its Cape Cod Colonial and rambler style homes built after World War II. Some historic homes dating back to the origins of the neighborhood in 1885 do remain. Green spaces in the area include Beaver Lake, a great place to fish for panfish, catfish and northern pike, along with several others parks and recreation centers. White Bear Avenue, which runs north and south through the center of the district, services its residents with shops, restaurants, churches, schools and businesses.
The neighborhood is bordered on the north by Larpenteur Avenue, on the east by McKnight Road, on the south by Minnehaha Avenue, and on the west by Johnson Parkway and the Burlington Northern railroad berm.
