Burnsville Performing Arts Center - Ramps Up Fall 2010

I had written before about the Burnsville Performing Arts Center and some of the controversies surrounding its funding and initial difficulties in getting ramped up. Since that was almost a year ago it seemed like a good chance to go back and revisit what’s been happening there since. I wanted to see if they are doing a better job of booking shows and taking advantage of the beautiful building that taxpayers of Burnsville had invested in.
Scheduling Performers
When looking at their Schedule of Events one can see that they seem to be having much more success at scheduling shows and using the building for its intended purpose. They have a variety of performances by local theater and musical groups and a number of national performers scheduled this fall in their 2 theaters. These well known performers include –
- Travis Tritt
- Richard Marx
- Lorie Line
- Magician Rob Lake
All of these acts are scheduled within the next 2+ months
Art Gallery Usage
In addition to the “Performing” side the building has an Art Gallery which is fully scheduled with exhibits through June 2011. The newest exhibit kicks off tomorrow, September 23rd and runs through November 13th. It is hosted by the Minnesota Watercolor Society and is called “Illuminated”. It is focusing on the usage of dark and light colors in watercolor painting.
Burnsville PAC Moving Forward
The outlook at the Burnsville Performing Arts Center looks to be improved, especially with the quality of offerings this fall of 2010. It will be interesting to see how that translates into the financial impact of running the building so that it can come closer to early projections and not be a drain on city finances. It certainly looks like the residents of Burnsville should be optimistic about the performances and the long term outlook.
