COMING HOME
I met Dennis and Ruby after looking for a home with another Realtor for 3 months. I was not so subtly past to a different Realtor because her contract with me was over, obviously had not found a home within that time frame, and was a small homebuyer. I got Dennis’s name from my two brothers who had bought homes through him. One brother found one within a weekend because he was relocating to MSP quickly and the other brother took months and was shown “ a hundred” of homes before finding “the one”. Dennis also found a buyer for his existing home at the time and was pleased that the home sold for more than what he was hoping for and in the time frame needed. Both brothers are still very happy and love their homes.
So I started looking for my home with Dennis. Each outing, rain or shine, winter or summer, I would wear these red Danska shoe clogs and would click my heels before entering each home and say to myself, “All I want is to come home.” I felt like Dorothy in the Wizard of OZ. I remember waiting for Dennis’s partner one time and a red car with RUBY license plate’s pulls up and I meet Ruby his partner and thought all this was way coincidental. Red shoes, ruby slippers, coming home, and then Ruby in the flesh. And for me, it all meant it was “a sign” that Dennis and Ruby were sent to me to find my perfect home.
Showing me homes became a quest. House after house for the next 15 months and each time wearing my red clogs and hoping it would be the one and each time stretching my mind to make it work but instinctually knowing that it wasn’t. At the time I was living in a carriage house at my sisters and had a nice arrangement that I could wait until the right one came along. Dennis and Ruby would pick me up always happy to see me and would say, “Are you ready for an adventure?” Never giving me the impression that they were bored, tired, agitated, or sick of me showing house after house, then condos etc. for 15 months. We got to know each other well and developed a friendship that I now cherish.
Then I went a three-week trip to the Southwest. On my trip I really came home to me. I even found and bought furniture in Taos, New Mexico that I fell in love with not knowing if it would fit in my potential new place. When I got home that day I checked base with Dennis and he had a load of places for me to see. One he had said looked like a “Hansel and Gretel” house. Those are the names of my two cats so I thought it was another “sign”. I had tons of things to do since I just got home but I dropped everything and just went wearing my red shoe clogs. That home was not it and Dennis said for us to just see this other one close by so the next day we could concentrate on this other area. So we went and immediately when I walked in I just knew. You see I had a list of characteristics written down on a piece of paper at home under a candle that I burned for months and this home had everything on it and more. Even down to a claw foot tub. Dennis laughed because he lost me for a second and found me lying inside that tub checking it out for future bathing.
It has been a little over a year since I moved in and I just absolutely adore my little home. I love coming home to my house every night. For me, the success of finding my home was learning the lesson on patience and endurance, coming home inside myself, and having such great realtors as Dennis and Ruby. I thank every day for them and all their time, patience, and kindness they both have shown me. It is very obvious that they love what they do and are great at it. Sometimes Dennis will answer the phone by saying, “Hi, this is Dennis your realtor for life.” I giggle and tease him every time but you know Dennis will be mine as long as I stay in the MSP area. Thank you Dennis and Ruby so much for really being there for me. You’re great!
