Taxpayers Take Note: 2011 TAX DEADLINES EXTENDED

This year, because of a District of Columbia holiday, taxpayers will have an extra three days to complete and file their 2010 tax returns.

Instead of the normal April 15th tax filing date, taxpayers this year will have until Monday, April 18th, 2011 to file their 2010 tax returns.

Tax filing deadlines are extended if the tax filing deadline falls on Saturday, Sunday or a federal holiday. Because the April 15th tax deadline falls on Emancipation Day, a District of Columbia holiday (treated as a federal holiday for purposes of tax deadlines), taxpayers will be given an extra three days to complete and file their 2010 tax returns.

Additionally, the due date for “extensions” – normally, October 15th – falls on a Saturday this year. Therefore, this year, the due date for extensions of individual returns will be Monday, October 17th, 2011.
