The territory that would become present day Centerville was first platted in 1854, and was officially organized as a city in 1857. The name Centerville was chosen because of the territory’s “central” location between Anoka, Stillwater, and St. Paul. Settlers here were primarily French-Canadian, with many German immigrants settling farther west. In the early days, a school, a sawmill, the Church of St. Genevieve of Paris, and other stores were built, and the community thrived. Today, Centerville maintains its small town feel while providing its approximately 4,000 residents with countless modern amenities, making this city a fantastic place to call home.
