The Stearns County Household Hazardous Waste Facillity accepts and recycles hazardous waste such as latex pant, oil based paint and stain, automotive chemicals and more. Cold Spring is part of the Independent School District No.750 and includes Richmond and Rockville. There are five public schools available:

  • Cold Spring Elementary
  • Richmond Elementary
  • Cold Spring Middle School
  • Rocori High School

There are also three private schools in the district:

  • St. Peter & Paul Elementary
  • St. Boniface Elementary
  • Holy Cross Elementary

Transportation

The Transit Connection has buses operating in the rural Stearns Counties five days a week, with reservations available up to a week prior. In the nearby city of St. Cloud you can find Greyhound Bus services, Amtrak train services, as well as the Executive Express that offers Minneapolis Airport shuttle service to the city of Cold Spring.

Local Government

Cold Spring is a statutory city governed by a Mayor and four members of Council. The Mayor serves two year terms and council members each serve a four year term with two members being elected at alternate two year intervals. The City Administrator and Finance Director coordinate the functions of the city, which include planning, organizing, directing and coordinating municipal activities.

City History

The three towns of Rockville, Cold Spring, and Richmond were all founded in the year 1856, with Cold Spring located where the best waterpower was available to turn the millstones that ground grain into grist, or logs into lumber for the farmers. In 1857, the official Cold Spring Post Office was established, and by 1915 Cold Spring was considered the most thriving and best known small village in the Northwest. In 1920 the Cold Spring Granite Company was founded, and has grown to become the main industry of the community. The city has grown to be a popular summer resort area, with an abundant community.
