The Eden Prairie Public School District operates eight schools. Eden Prairie has one charter school and one private school as well. For post-secondary education, Eden Prairie is home to Hennepin Technical College as well as ITT Technical Institute.

 

Transportation

Southwest Metro Transit provides public transportation to Eden Prairie as well as several other suburbs in the Southwest metro. It not only offers routes in and around Eden Prairie, it also provides service to the University of Minnesota and downtown Minneapolis. The city is home to the Flying Cloud Airport as well.

 

Local Government

The Eden Prairie local government is run by the mayor in conjunction with the city council. The council has four members in addition to the city manager.

 

City History

Eden Prairie hosted its first town meeting on the day that Minnesota earned statehood. From that point through the mid-1900s, the town, which was primarily agricultural, grew extremely slowly. The 1960s and ā€˜70s proved to be the beginning of the major expansion of the city. With the addition of Interstate 494 and the bulking of the cityā€™s parks and recreation system, Eden Prairie began to transform into the community that it is today.
