The city of Farmington was named after Farmington, New York, and is one of Dakota Countyā€™s oldest communities. Farmington was on the map before Minnesota even became a state! The ā€œvast conglomeration of farms and farm housesā€ would be platted in 1864, and began the first municipal government in 1872.
