City History

The settlement of Forest Lake was founded as a result of the railroad, which extended from St. Paul to Duluth. In addition to being a stop along the railroad, the areas beautiful lakes prompted increased development of summer lake homes. As more people were drawn to the area, the commercial district grew along with it. Improvements to the town and infrastructure transitioned the town from a summer boomtown into a year-round residence. Since the 1970s, Forest Lake has continued to see residential and commercial growth, shaping the city into the thriving community that it is today.
