Transportation

Arrowhead Transit provides public transportation services from Grand Marais to Duluth every 2nd Tuesday and 4th Thursday of the month. This allows residents to have easy access to Duluth without needed to utilize their own personal vehicles.

Local Government

As a Statutory City, Grand Marais operates under a five member City Council. This Council, consisting of the Mayor and four council members, dictates city ordinances and policies, and is responsible for the administration of those policies.

City History

Originally part of Rosebud Township, Grand Marais was incorporated into a city in 1903. The city left the Township three years later and became the independent entity that it is today. Since itā€™s incorporation, Grand Marais has been attracting those who love the outdoors and the arts. In 1995, the North House Folk School was established, and has become nationally renowned. Today, Grand Marais is a natural oasis with just under 1,500 residents.
