German natives Jacob and William Vollbrecht first settled Hanover in 1855. The settlement continued to grow with the addition of a dam and a sawmill, which were followed by a post office, general store, and other businesses within the next ten years. The village was not officially incorporated until 1891. Today, Hanover is home to just over 3,000 residents.
