City History

Settled in the 1870s, Lester Prairie’s first years were extremely difficult. Due to financial depression and grasshopper plagues, farmers and other settlers struggled to make ends meet. But, at the same time, more European immigrants came to the area. As the population grew, and the railroad came to the area, businesses and farms began to boom. Lester Prairie has remained primarily rural, and today is home to just fewer than 2,000 residents.
