The Long Lake City Council, consisting of five members, is responsible for the legislative oversight of the city. The Mayor and four additional council members dictate policy as well as decide on budgets, and meet the first and third Tuesdays of every month.
Long Lake was settled permanently in 1855, and grew with the introduction of mills, the railroad, and a small assortment of stores. In the late 1890’s and early 1900’s fruit production – namely raspberries and strawberries – boomed. After World War I, Long Lake began to transition away from their agricultural roots and shifted into a more service-based economy. Today, Long Lake is home to just fewer than 2,000 residents, and contains a bustling and vibrant community.
