City History

The Macalester Groveland neighborhood was part of the Fort Snelling Military Base until the 1850’s. After that point, the Mac-Grove area established many successful farms and orchards and began developing land into urban settlements, steadily increasing the neighborhood’s profitability. Most famously, the prestigious liberal arts college, Macalester College, moved to its current location in 1884.
