City History

Maple Plain was established, and has flourished, because of the dense, rich, black soil in the area. This created an agricultural boom after early settlement in 1854. With the addition of the railroad in 1868, the lumber industry boomed, as did the permanence of Maple Plain, though it was not incorporated until 1912. Today, Maple Plain is a thriving community with just under 2,000 residents.
