County History
Mille Lacs County was established in 1857, but much had already happened in the area before that time. The railroad already ran through parts of the county, and the first school was already built. The county seat was placed in Princeton but was moved to more centrally located Milaca in 1920. From that point on, the county grew about Milaca, with many tourist attractions and resorts popping up around the lake. Today, over 25,000 residents live and work in this abundant and beautiful area.
