First settled in 1855, Northfield began as a quaint milling town on the Cannon River. The community was extremely tolerant, promoting womenā€™s rights, the abolitionist movement, and helping your fellow man. Education was also a town priority, with the first school built in 1856 and the first college founded just ten years later. This was the beginning of what would become the cityā€™s legacy, and to this day the community boasts multiple institutions of higher education. Now, Northfield is a thriving city with a population of just over 20,000 residents.
