County History

Established in 1855, Renville County’s early history was lost due to the Sioux uprisings on 1862. Because of this, the county was not officially organized until 1866. Named after famous pioneer, guide, and translator Joseph Renville, who was an essential asset to the fur traders in the late 1700’s, and friend to settlers and natives alike. Today, Renville County is home to just over 15,000 residents.
