Local Government

Shorewood operates under the Mayor Council form of government. City History

Shorewood began as part of Excelsior Township, which was established in 1853. This community remained under the township government for just over a century before organizing into a village in 1956. This area has been a prime tourist destination throughout its history, and has enjoyed affluence as a result. Since becoming a city in 1974, Shorewood has continued to thrive, and is now home to approximately 8,000 residents.
