The City of Tonka Bay was first incorporated as a village on September 11th, 1901, though the community’s history began long before that day. First settled in 1853, Tonka Bay was laid claim to by a man named Peter Gideon. Between the first settlement and the village’s incorporation, hotels were built, and a railroad brought a population boom. Today, Tonka Bay is home to about 1,500 residents, with over half of the city’s 651 homes located on the water.
