City History

Winsted was first settled in 1857, and incorporated thirty years later. After incorporation, schools, stores, churches, and mills were established and the village saw slow, but steady, growth. By the 1950ā€™s the population rested at just fewer than 1,000 residents. But in the following decade, the addition of a hospital and the municipal airport brought more jobs, and growth to the area. Today, Winsted is home to approximately 2,500 residents.
