City History
The City of Amery, Wisconsin owes its existence mainly to the lumber industry. The community was first known as āBig Dam,ā due to the dam constructed to keep water levels high enough to log timber from the area down the Apple River to Stillwater. Several years later, a rumor of a rail line made its way to Amery, which prompted the construction of a general store, sawmill, and more. The railroad did eventually make its way to the area, creating even more opportunities for growth. Today, Amery is a thriving city of about 3,000 residents.
