Village History

Hager City was founded by the Chicago, Burlington, & Northern Railroad in the year 1886, and as a city located on an island in the Mississippi, it has an interesting past. Because of the myriad of backwater channels and unique coves, Hager City was used by bootleggers during Prohibition, and was a frequent hideout used by the likes of Al Capone and John Dillinger. Today, Hager City is home to approximately 500 residents.
