This council consists of the Mayor and four additional council members; two from each of the two city districts, all of which are elected for two-year staggered terms. This body is responsible for administration of city ordinances and policies.
The sister cities of St. Croix Falls, WI and Taylors Falls, MN were first settled in the mid-1800s. Primarily a logging town, St. Croix Falls grew in population, gaining international attention in 1886 for a massive log jam. Because the area was the northern-most point accessible by steamboat, a variety of entrepreneurs came to the area to conduct business. The power of the river was harnessed when a hydroelectric dam was constructed in 1912. The dam provided power to the Twin Cities and cemented the utility of the area. Today St. Croix Falls is a beautiful small town with a population of just over 2,000.
