Star Prairie is home to a variety of retailers ranging from auto repair shops to antique stores. Beyond all that Star Prairie has to offer, a straight shot down 65 gets you to the regional shopping destination of New Richmond. New Richmond is home to everything from Wal-Mart to Maurices. No matter what you’re looking for, be it clothing, antiques, sporting goods, or anything in-between, you’ll find it near by Star Prairie.

The Village of Star Prairie utilizes the recycling programs provided by St. Croix County. In addition to recycling, Star Prairie is home to the Threshing Table Farm, which runs a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. This program promotes sustainable farming, and reduces the amount of time from the farm to the table – which provides residents with more nutritious, delicious food options.
The New Richmond School District is responsible for offering educational services and resources to the residents of Star Prairie. This district is known for its comprehensive coursework, strong athletic programs, and for consistently producing a high graduation rate. From integrating technology into the classroom to protecting the safety of all staff and students, the School District of New Richmond provides a quality education for all.
Star Prairie does not offer any public transportation services to residents.
The Star Prairie Village Board is made up of the Village President and four Village Trustees. This governing body works to appropriately allocate the village budget, helping to make it easier for residents to access the services that they need. The Village Board meets publicly on the first Wednesday of each month.
Star Prairie was first settled by German, Irish, Polish, French, Norwegian, and English immigrants in the early 1850s. Located on the Apple River, dams were put in place to power mills, which helped prompt growth in the area. A flour mill, general store, and churches spring up. During Prohibition, Star Prairie became a supplier of illegal liquor to the Twin Cities, though this enterprise did not last long as rumors of Al Capone’s takeover of the industry quickly halted moonshine operations. Today, Star Prairie is back on the straight and narrow, and is home to approximately 500 residents.
