Village History

The Village of Turtle Lake was first settled in 1875 and was known, at the time, as Skowhagen. In the first five years, a sawmill was established, as was a general store and post office. Shortly after the community was established, the Chicago, Northwestern railroad arrived in the area. This brought additional settlers, businesses and supplies to the area, prompting the Village of Turtle Lake to be platted in 1898.
