Columbus was first settled in 1855, and was platted in 1856. The community grew relatively quickly, with a hotel, school, mill and several shops established within the next year. Industries including Twine, boomed in the late 1800’s, and for a short time the community saw a spike in both economic and population growth. Columbus maintained it’s status as a Township for over 100 years, and on September 21, 2006 the petition to be incorporated into the City of Columbus was accepted.
