The CERC, or Community Education and Recreation Center, boasts a fitness center, a 3-gym space, walking track, meeting room with attached kitchen, and more. Jordan Public Schools, ISD #717, provides comprehensive educational services and resources to Jordan residents of all ages. This district takes pride in providing technologically advanced classrooms and working extensive STEM, arts, language, and extra curricular programs. The school district also partners with the city to provide recreational programs and services as well.
There is no public transit authority servicing the city of Jordan.
The seven-member Jordan City Council is responsible for deciding city policies and ordinances, as well as appointing a city administrator to carry out city business. The council meets on the first and third Monday of each month.
First settled in the mid-1800s, the area that would become Jordan was actually home to two separate communities. In 1872, these two communities – Jordan City and Brentwood – were incorporated into the village of Jordan. At this time, there existed stores, schools, and churches, but the locals wanted to add a county courthouse into the mix. The village tried, ultimately unsuccessfully, to have the county seat moved to Jordan from 1872 to 1929. The city continues, as it did then, to thrive, and is now home to approximately 6,000 residents.
