City History

Established as a midpoint between Saint Paul and Saint Peter in 1858, Lakeville Townshipā€™s primarily Scandinavian residents cultivated a farming community along present day Lake Marion. The area gained notoriety when Colonel Marion Savage constructed Antlers Amusement Park in 1910, prompting the re-naming of the lake. The community maintained its agricultural basis through the end of the 20th century, even after becoming a city in 1967. It wasnā€™t until the early 2000s that Lakeville began to boom. With population and residential housing price increases in the Twin Cities metro area, Lakeville began to grow into the outer-suburb we know today.
