Born on the Soo Line railway, Loretto was founded in 1886. Businesses like dairy mills and meat markets in addition to a general store and bank sprung up quickly, establishing Loretto as a commercial center. The city was officially incorporated in 1940, and since then has boasted town team baseball, keeping the community close. Today, Loretto is home to just under 700 residents.
