Mendota

Welcome to Mendota! Find Your Place Here.

Mendota is also known as “where the waters meet,” meaning the convergence of the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers. Despite having one of the smallest populations in the state, Mendota is bursting with history.

When Fort Snelling was constructed, Mendota established itself as a prominent fur-trading center. The town’s historic buildings have been restored to preserve the area’s heritage, so residents and visitors can visit places like the Sibley House and St. Peter’s Church to learn more about the region.

The city was also one of the first permanent settlements developed in the state of Minnesota — a point of pride that shines through in this charming town. Whether it be notable past residents like Joseph Godfrey (the only African American soldier in the Dakota War) or beautiful museums such as the Henry Hastings Sibley house, this town proudly embraces its rich history.

Everyone knows the luxuries of living by the water, but in Mendota, that experience is especially prominent. Being where the waters meet allows residents easy access to not only the Minnesota and Mississippi rivers, but also to Augusta Lake and several nearby ponds. You’re never far from the water in Mendota.

For those who prefer a life outdoors, this is the perfect place to be — outdoor charm is where the community really shines.
