Students attend schools within Milaca Independent School District 912. These schools offer a wide variety of sports and activities for students to participate in. The Milaca Mega Meet is hosted in town, and is the world’s largest cross-country meet for high schoolers. Milaca High School also has a science and research forest for students to experience hands-on learning.
Milaca does not have a public transportation system, aside from school buses for the area’s students.
The city council is comprised of four city councilmembers and one mayor. Meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of every month at City Hall.
Milaca’s first residents were members of the Ojibwa and Dakota tribes, and they were the only people in the area until the Minnesota Territory was established in 1849. Railroads brought loggers to the area, as it was an ideal place for the trade. Milaca was later platted in 1885, and has continued to grow as a place to live and do business until today.
