Transportation

The Brainerd and Crow Wing County Public Transit & Pine River Service provides public transportation services throughout Brainerd, Baxter, Nisswa, and Crow Wing County.

Local Government

The City Council consists of the Mayor and four additional council members. This governing body is responsible for all administrative, legislative, and budgetary oversight concerning city operations. City Council meetings are held at City Hall on the third Tuesday of every month.

City History

In 1898 Ernest Smiley established a stop called Smiley for the railroad just off what is now Nisswa’s main street.  When the village was incorporated in 1908 the name was changed to Nisswa which means “in the middle” which is fitting as it is located in the middle of Nisswa, Clark, and Roy lakes. Nisswa became a municipality in 1946.
