The Chetek-Weyerhaeuser Area School District is the primary educational resource for residents of Chetek. This district provides extensive arts, athletics, and science programs all offered in such a way that students can begin to prep for their post-secondary education from the very beginning. With a focus on ensuring that students are prepared for the future, this district is known as one of the top performing systems in the state of Wisconsin.
The City of Chetek is home to a municipal airport, in addition to offering taxi services through Badger Taxi.
The five-member Chetek City Council is the administrative and legislative authority in the city. The Mayor and four-ward elected councilmembers meet publicly on the second Tuesday of each month, in addition to holding meetings on an as-necessary basis.
First settled in 1863, Chetek is a city that experienced quick growth and noteworthy expansion. A line on the Chicago, Minneapolis & Omaha Railway was first constructed in 1882, which played a large part in the community’s incorporation as a city in 1891 – without being incorporated as a village first. Stores, mills, banks, and other businesses popped up rather quickly and Chetek became a strong commercial center within the region. Today, Chetek is home to over 2,000 residents and still maintains a strong economy with a small town atmosphere.
