The Clayton Village Board consists of the Village President and six additional trustees. The board meets on the first Monday of each month to discuss village business, allocating budgets, and ensuring that village services and facilities are available to the public as needed.
Founded as a logging town, and named after Clayton Rogers, a Union Army Veteran and part owner of the logging company Humbird and Rogers, Clayton was first settled in the late 1870s. By 1909, the dairy industry had taken over. Clayton has a long and storied dairy history, at one time producing the most Blue Cheese in the world, earning the nickname “The Blue Cheese Capitol of the World”. Today, the dairy industry is still alive and well in Clayton, now producing pizza cheese that is used by many nationwide fast food chains. This solid history of production has sustained Clayton throughout the years, maintaining it’s small town atmosphere and providing plentiful employment.
