New Restaurant for Cobblestone Lake

The Apple Valley Patch reported the Crooked Pint Ale House is Planning Expansion into Apple Valley’s Cobblestone Lake.

The restaurant franchise hopes to begin construction on a 5,448-square-foot building at some point this year, according to Apple Valley city officials.

Story By David Henke
Want bocce ball, craft beers and outdoor dining?

You may be in luck. Crooked Pint Ale House, a restaurant franchise with one location in downtown Minneapolis, is planning a second, 5,448-square-foot location in southwest Apple Valley.

Construction on the new restaurant could begin later this year, if the Apple Valley City Council approves a conditional use permit for on-sale liquor sales and a site plan submitted by developer DDJ Ranch Development, LLC. The council is expected to vote whether to approve both requests in April, according to Apple Valley Community Development Director Bruce Nordquist.

The proposed restaurant would be located in the Cobblestone Lake Commercial Development, on the northeast corner of Pilot Knob Road and 157th St. W. Building plans call for a 1,640-square-foot outdoor patio and bocce ball court. A portion of the dining area would also be covered by glass walls and a glass ceiling that could be retracted in summer months to provide for outdoor dining.

The restaurant would be located adjacent to Pizza Ranch, which opened last year.

Crooked Pint's Minneapolis location is described as a "nouveau urban pub with the feel of a local neighborhood restaurant," according to the restaurant's website:

The menu features classic pub faire with nearly 50 choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as kids’ menu selections. Dishes include Washington Avenue Pot Roast, Drunkin’ Sirloin, Ale House Walleye ‘N’ Chips, Chorizo Corn Dogs, Ale House Deviled Eggs, Crooked Cowboy Lucy, and a Crooked Caprese Salad.

The Apple Valley Planning Commission is expected to review the restaurant plans at its March 20 meeting this week. The restaurant would be part of the city's 300-acre Cobblestone Lake commercial and residential development.

New Sandwich Shop Coming to Apple Valley's Cobblestone Lake Shopping District

Allison Wickler reported in the Apple Valley Patch, each year, autumn brings the start of a new school session and cooler weather. This year the change of season also will bring with it a new temptation for the tastebuds of Apple Valley and Rosemount residents.

A Goodcents Deli Fresh Subs restaurant is slated to open in the Cobblestone Lake shopping district of Apple Valley by the third week of September, according to franchisee and Hastings resident John O'Tool.

It will go into the the shopping center that holds Moon Nails, right next door.

The restaurant chain has one other Minnesota location, in Mankato; it serves cold and hot sandwiches, pastas, soups, sides and desserts. O'Tool, who was looking for a franchise opportunity, said he used to live in the Kansas City area and was turned on to the restaurant there.

"I always just came back to that one," he said. "I think by far the quality is the best. You just can’t beat it."

The biggest difference from other sandwich shops is that at Goodcents, meat is sliced for the customers after they order their sandwiches; bread is baked at least twice a day on site, he said.

He said there also could be some seasonal menu items.

O'Tool said he'll hire about 25 people. In addition to providing a fresh, quality product, O'Tool said he'll focus on customer service, looking not necessarily to hire people with food service experience, but people who are service-oriented.

"I think once people taste it ... they’ll come back,” he said.

Cobblestone Lake Neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt

Is anyone be interested in being in charge of a Cobblestone Lake neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt? Sunday April 1st in the late afternoon or Saturday the 7th anytime. This would be a super fun neighborhood event! Families who participate drop off 6 plastic eggs for each kid participating at the "hosts" house. The "host" just needs to hide the eggs on/in/around the play ground area before the hunt. Option of doing two hunts, one for the younger kids and one for older. You wouldn't have to do much planning...unless you want to of course, that would be great actually! If you are interested let me know and I can give you details or you can run with it! Might also be nice to see a show of hands as to those who might like to attend this type of event here in Cobblestone Lake.
