Just for Minnesota Seniors

If you or an older adult you know is planning to move out of their family home, you know seniors face some unique issues when moving.

  • What will I do with all my stuff?
  • How do I get my home ready to sell?
  • When I move should I own or rent?
  • How do I choose a senior housing community?
  • How might the sale of my home effect my eligibility for Medical Assistance up to 5 years from now?

You want to work with a real estate agent who has the expertise to help you navigate the maze of senior services, and help you avoid potential pitfalls of selling your home. There are numerous designations a real estate agent can earn that tell you they have invested the time to learn about what is important to you.

  1. Certified Senior Advisor (CSA). This is the most indepth course. Offered by the Society of Senior Advisors, real estate agents who take this course are serious about developing their expertise. This designation involves a rigorous series of coursework, ongoing education, ongoing commitment to volunteer work and a proctored exam.
  2. Senior Real Estate Specialist (SRES). Offered nationally, this is the most common of the senior designations available to real estate agents.
  3. REALTOR® Senior Advisor (RSA). This designation is offered by the Minneapolis Area Association of REALTORS®. It is the only course that introduces students to local resources for seniors and local senior housing communities. It is the most practical for Minnesota real estate agents who want to learn about how to better serve their senior clients in Minnesota. (Disclaimer: the author is a consultant and instructor for this series of courses, so may be a little bias!). Download a brochure about RSA here.

Choose your REALTOR® wisely.

All my best,
