Metro Transit fulfills Edinaā€™s public transportation needs, with bus routes from Edina into the heart of Minneapolis. The city is also expanding its network of bike lanes, making it safer and easier to commute any way you please.

 

Local Government

Edinaā€™s local government is served by a City Council that consists of the mayor and four additional council members. The council is responsible for appointing a city manager, who carries out the policies and ordinances dictated by the city.

 

City History

Primarily settled by Irish, English, and Scottish farmers, the area that would become present-day Edina was originally a part of the Richfield Township. In 1888 the residents of the area held a meeting to discuss creating a new village separate from the township, and so Edina was born. The city has grown and developed into one of the most affluent suburbs of Minneapolis.
