Longfellow neighborhood is at the center of the larger five-neighborhood Longfellow Community (Cooper, Hiawatha, Howe, Longfellow and Seward neighborhoods). The neighborhood is named after 19th century American poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, who penned the famous poem, The Song of Hiawatha, in 1855. Like other popular Longfellow neighborhoods, it is bordered on the west by Hiawatha Ave (Hwy 55) and the Twin Cities light-rail line, conveniently making it just minutes away from downtown Minneapolis, The Metrodome, MSP International Airport and the Mall of America. It’s eastern border is 38th Avenue, and it runs from 27th Street in the north to 34th Street in the south. The neighborhood is a mix of industrial on the west and multi-family residential in the east.
