TWIN PORTS

Commonly referred to as the Twin Ports, the Duluth/Superior metro area is located right off the coast of Lake Superior and considered one of the largest cargo ports in the United States. The Twin Ports area is home to many natural attractions and being right next to the North Shore there is much to do along Lake Superior. Minnesota and Wisconsin are connected by two bridges across the Saint Louis Bay that divides Duluth and Superior. You can also find the Aerial Lift Bridge in Duluth which raises and lowers to let cargo ships in and out of the area. RECREATION

The Twin Ports metro and surrounding areas are truly an outdoor loverā€™s playground. With multiple state parks and amazing history in the area you can see why. Just travel up the North Shore from Duluth to Grand Marais and you will find six state parks along the way. With well-known state parks such as Gooseberry Falls and Tettegouche, there is no shortage of places to visit and beautiful views to see. The North Shore is also home to the famous Split Rock Lighthouse which was completed in 1910 and is one of Minnesotaā€™s best-known destinations with amazing photography opportunities.

If you prefer to spend your time on the water as to on land hiking and biking, then Twin Ports has you covered. Duluth is home to the worldā€™s largest freshwater sandbar, Park Point Beach. Stretching 7 miles along the coast of Lake Superior you are sure to find many beach goers as well as some peace and quiet if you prefer. Equipped with a boat launch, you can head out for a day on the second largest lake in the country. Donā€™t forget to bring your fishing net!

THINGS TO DO

Ranking amongst the largest metro areas in Minnesota and Wisconsin there are plenty of things to do in the Twin Ports metro. From hiking along one of the hundreds of trails up the shore to checking out some of the newest breweries there is always something to do. If youā€™re into hiking or mountain biking, check out one of the many state parks along the north shore. If you have a craving for the newest IPA, there are many breweries to check out in Duluth and Superior. If you travel a little further up the coast you can stop at Lutsen, MN for skiing in the winter or take a gondola ride in the summer to see the beautiful vies in the area. Sports fans donā€™t worry as the University of Minnesota Duluth has one of the top hockey programs in the country! All in all, you are sure to find something that interests you in Twin Ports.
