Carver County is governed locally by the County Board of Commissioners. This board consists of five, district elected, members, and is responsible for all operational and budget oversight and allocation.
Named for Jonathan Carver, the early explorer who developed strong ties to the native populations in the area, Carver County came into being on March 3rd, 1855. Divided into ten townships, the county established five school districts and began to grow rather quickly. Both the agricultural and brickmaking industries attracted settlers to the area, and large groups of German, Irish, and Swedish immigrants began to call the county home.
Since 1980, Carver County has become one of the fastest growing counties in the State. Today, just over 95,000 people reside here, a number that grows annually.
