City History

Established in February of 1856, Todd County was much larger than it is today, extending east as far as the Mississippi River. When Minnesota gained statehood two years later, the present-day borders were instated. The Countyā€™s historic government buildings were built on land donated by John P. Tweed of the Long Prairie Land Company. On this land sits the original jail and courthouse, along with the additional county facilities built in the 1980ā€™s and 1990ā€™s. Today, the county is home to just fewer than 25,000 residents, who enjoy a low unemployment rate, beautiful natural resources, and plentiful modern amenities.
